Located in Cyprus, VirtualTaboo is a small adult VR site launched in december 2015. Not being part of any network, they solely offer virtual content. As the name gives away, they try to distinguish themselves from other sites by focusing on ‘taboo stories’.

1. Video quality (8/10)

Virtual reality relies heavily on advanced equipment and complex filming and postprocessing techniques. Seemingly, a low budget website like VirtualTaboo would have a hard time competing with huge network sites such as WankzVR and Naughty America on this area. So, to be honest, we didn’t have high expectations in terms of video quality. Turns out we were wrong.

VirtualTaboo meets the standards when looking at the video specs. They use full stereoscopic 3D with 180° field of view, head tracking and binaural audio. Some videos are 60 fps, others are 50 fps. We don’t know why they aren’t consistent with this, but the 50 fps videos aren’t noticeably less smooth.

This is a good start, but doesn’t say it all. We’ve seen plenty of other sites that meet the standard, but fall behind in terms of clarity, angling, scaling, et cetera.

So we put VirtualTaboo to the test, extensively sampling their video collection. To save you the details: We did not find a single fault in any of these areas. The image is very clear and reasonably sharp. Everything is perfectly in proportion and feels very realistic.

They could improve their lightning techniques a bit, because the colors are not as bright and vivid as we’ve seen elsewhere. But overall on video quality, VirtualTaboo can easily compete with best them.

2. Production quality (6/10)

Knowing how to produce a solid video in terms of image quality, doesn’t necessarily say a lot about the production quality. The latter is all about the content of the videos.

This is where VirtualTaboo still drops the ball a bit. Supposedly they specialize in the ‘what’s not to be spoken of’ (yes, we mean taboo), however we see little of this in the videos. If there is an introduction at all, it doesn’t really add anything to the scene. There’s very little dialogue going on and it’s plain action most of the time.

The sex positions in the non-solo videos are very basic and repetitive. What is interesting though, is that VirtualTaboo experiments with different types video. In some scenes you are the voyeur watching the action. Something we’re seeing more on other sites these days as well.

Most solo videos are between 14 to 20 minutes. The sex videos are quite long compared to other sites, and have a duration anywhere between 25 and 50 minutes.

Sets and locations
In a regular adult video, scenery doesn’t add much as it’s all about the action. In virtual reality, you feel like you are in the scene, so surroundings play a fair part in the experience. However, as little originality there is in the shooting of the scenes, there is in set choice. Most scenes are shot indoors, in a small living room or bedrooms. The sets are plain and quite boring, some make you feel like you’re in a cheap brothel.

3. Collection quality (7/10)

While the first video dates from December 2015, right now VirtualTaboo’s collection contains over 530 videos. They release 3 new videos every week these days, but started at a much slower rate.

In the video collection you’ll find a lot of solo scenes, quite a few lesbian, plenty of sex toys, some stripping, but in general little variety in genres. Don’t expect anything to rough. It’s relatively soft ‘taboo’ here mostly.

As we mentioned, some videos are from third person perspective (like in a regular adult video), where you are watching others have sex. VirtualTaboo also has a couple of lesbian scenes taken from a woman’s point of view, which is interesting.

Models collection
In VirtualTaboo’s videos currently feature about 240 different models. The girls are mostly from Eastern Europe and Russia, but there are also some Latinos and a few Asians. It’s mostly a mix of blondes, brunettes, girls in their 20’s, 30’s and some teens.

4. Ease of access (7/10)

VirtualTaboo’s site has been totally renewed a few years ago. We weren’t very enthusiastic about the previous one, so it was a needed improvement. The new site has a very bright and clean design and is pretty minimalistic, which we like.

With the new redesign, VirtualTaboo now also offers filter options, so you can quickly navigate by genre. The site offers free previews of all their videos. The previews give a pretty good idea what the video is about and are a great way to see if their collection matches your taste.

Next to each video you can pick the download for your device. VirtualTaboo supports most of the popular devices:

Note that for the PSVR, you can’t using streaming, only download. We got an average download speed of 10MB/s, varying from 7 to 11 MB/s, So on peak hours, you can expect slower download speeds.

5. Value for the money (7/10)

VirtualTaboo does a lot to appeal new visitors. Everyone can freely access their image galleries and can download a number free VR videos as well.

As we stated earlier, VirtualTaboo is not part of any adult network, so you’re access is limited to their own, virtual content. With one new video added each week, their offering is rapidly growing. They used to offer a pay-per-video model as well, but stopped now the site has enough scenes to give enough value for a monthly subscription.

With the website renovation and expansion of the video collection VirtualTaboo has upped their pricing to $29.99, which is on the same level as most studios, which is similar to most sites. You can opt for a 3-months membership for $19.99 each month, or pay $99 for a full year.

Our verdict

VirtualTaboo has improved a lot over the years. They now have over 530 videos and a very intuitive website. Although the scenes lack a bit in variety, the video image quality is more than fine so if you appreciate their style, for $29.99 it will be worth your while.
