Updated: September 2025 (First review: Jan 2017)
Located in Cyprus, VirtualTaboo is a relatively small adult VR site launched in december 2015. Not being part of any network, they solely offer virtual content. As the name gives away, they try to distinguish themselves from other sites by focusing on ‘taboo stories’.
Quick summary
VirtualTaboo delivers ultra-high resolution VR scenes (7K / 180° immersive) and steady new content. Although production lacks innovation and scenes feel repetitive, if you fancy taboo it’s worth the $14.99 first month offer!
Our rating: 7.2 / 10
1300+ videos (+3 weekly!)
470+ models
Good image quality
little variety in scenes

1. Video quality (8/10)
Virtual reality relies heavily on advanced equipment and complex filming and postprocessing techniques. Seemingly, a low budget website like VirtualTaboo would have a hard time competing with huge network sites such as WankzVR and VR Bangers on this area. So, to be honest, we initially didn’t have high expectations in terms of video quality. Turns out we were wrong.
VirtualTaboo was actually the first studio to release content in 7k resolution. They use full stereoscopic 3D with 180° field of view, head tracking and binaural audio. Most videos are 60 fps, some of the older ones are 50 fps, which make them much less smooth.
This is a good start, but doesn’t say it all. We’ve seen plenty of other sites that meet the standard, but fall behind in terms of clarity, angling, scaling, et cetera.

So we put VirtualTaboo to the test, extensively sampling their video collection. To save you the details: We did not find a single fault in any of these areas. The image is crisp, rich in color depth (often 10-bit where possible), and with an immersive 180° field of view. Everything is perfectly in proportion and feels very realistic.
They could improve their lightning techniques a bit, because the colors are not as bright and vivid as we’ve seen elsewhere. Also, they don’t offer passthrough (AR) videos, which is growing in popularity these days. But overall on video quality, VirtualTaboo can easily compete with most other studios.
Video specifications:
- Type: Full stereoscopic 3D
- Resolutions:1980p up to 7K
- Framerate: Mostly 60 fps, some 50 fps
- Size: Varies from 2 to 12GB
- Video length: varies from 12 to 50+ minutes
- Other: 180° FOV, head tracking, binaural audio
2. Production quality (6/10)
Knowing how to produce a solid video in terms of image quality, doesn’t necessarily say a lot about the production quality. The latter is all about the content of the videos.
This is where VirtualTaboo still drops the ball a bit. Supposedly they specialize in the ‘what’s not to be spoken of’ (yes, we mean taboo), however we see little of this in the videos. If there is an introduction at all, it doesn’t really add anything to the scene. The more recent videos show a little bit more dialogue than the older ones, but most scenes still prioritize immersion and spectacle over plot or character development.
The sex positions in the non-solo videos are very basic and repetitive. What is interesting though, is that VirtualTaboo experiments a bit with different types video. In some scenes you are the voyeur watching the action. This is something other studios have taken over.
Most solo videos are between 14 to 20 minutes. The other videos are much longer, and have a duration anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes, which used to be an unique feature, but these days is the standard.
Sets and locations
In a regular adult video, scenery doesn’t add much as it’s all about the action. In virtual reality, you feel like you are in the scene, so surroundings play a fair part in the experience. However, as little originality there is in the shooting of the scenes, there is in set choice. Though, we’re seeing a bit more outdoor scenes than before, these are still quite conservative—VirtualTaboo seems to focus more on technical polish than on wildly diverse or exotic set design.
3. Collection quality (8/10)
VirtualTaboo’s scene library remains robust. Their collection contains well over 1300 videos. They still release 3 new videos every week and now have the largest video collection of all VR studios!
We must put this into context that often multiple videos are shot in the same take, so basically you’ll have one video split in two. In the video collection you’ll find a lot of solo scenes, quite a few lesbian, plenty of sex toys, some stripping, but in general little variety in genres. Don’t expect anything to rough. It’s relatively soft ‘taboo’ here mostly.
As we mentioned, some videos are from third person perspective (like in a regular adult video), where you are watching others have sex. VirtualTaboo also has a couple of lesbian scenes taken from a woman’s point of view, which is interesting.
VirtualTaboo doesn’t have their own live cam section. The link in their navigation redirects to a branded webcam platform called Stripchat.
Models collection
In VirtualTaboo’s videos currently feature about 470 different models. The girls are mostly from Eastern Europe and Russia, but there are also some Latinos and a few Asians. It’s mostly a mix of blondes, brunettes, girls in their 20’s, 30’s and some teens.

4. Ease of access (7/10)
VirtualTaboo’s website design hasn’t really changed much the last few years. It’s solid, usable, but not modern in terms of browsing innovations. The layout and interface work, though and the sites’ response time is really fast, which makes it easy to quickly browse through their videos.
Filtering/search tools are functional but modest. Categories are clear, scenes are easy to see, but sorting by more specific criteria (duration, resolution, niche) seems limited compared to newer platforms. As with most sites, you can play a video preview—but now it’s limited to just one playback. Unless you open a new incognito tab for each preview, this feels like a real drawback, as it restricts your ability to explore the library and check if the content suits your taste.

Each video shows the basics: tags, description, duration and models (including a link to the model’s page). Next to each video you can pick the resolution that is best suited for your device. VirtualTaboo supports most of the popular headsets:
- Oculus/Meta Quest
- HTC Vive Pro 1 & 2
- Playstation VR
- Valve Index
- Apple Vision Pro
- Oculus Rift / Rift S
- Smartphone (for cardboard variants)
Note that for the PSVR, you can’t use streaming, only download. We got an average download speed of 10MB/s, varying from 7 to 11 MB/s, So on peak hours, you can expect slower download speeds.
5. Value for the money (7/10)
VirtualTaboo remains premium priced, and with good reason, if you care about high resolution and polished visuals. But the value equation has shifted slightly as competitors raise their own standards while also improving usability and interface features.
Pricing (at time of this update):
- Monthly plan: $29.95 per month, with just $14.95 for the first month with our special discount!
- 3-months: $26,- per month.
- Annual plan: $14.40 per month
- Lifetime access: $250,-
If you are someone who can fully benefit from the 7K content (good headset, fast internet), VirtualTaboo delivers a high-end experience. But if you watch mostly on less capable hardware or don’t care much about taboo as genre, needless to say that you might find better alternatives.
Our verdict
VirtualTaboo still holds its place as a top-tier niche VR porn studio: high resolution, crisp video quality, and regular content updates. But the trade-off is that production wise they offer little value and many of its strengths are now expected rather than exceptional. The site has not significantly modernized its interface or browsing tools in years, making discovery of content slower and less satisfying than on fresher platforms. However if you’re a fan of the taboo genre, for a first month price of just $14.95, VirtualTaboo remains well worth your membership.
